Israel’s elite commando unit, Shayetet 13, executed a daring raid on a beach in Lebanon over the weekend to capture a senior Hezbollah official, Imad Amhaz. The operation involved storming a Hezbollah facility in Batroun and swiftly taking Amhaz into custody before escaping in a speedboat. Lebanese officials have disputed Amhaz’s identity, claiming he is merely a captain of civilian ships and a student at a naval institute.
Amhaz is believed to possess valuable information regarding Hezbollah’s naval activities, prompting Israeli interrogators to question him about the terror group’s maritime operations. While Hezbollah has denounced Israel’s actions in Batroun, they have not confirmed Amhaz’s affiliation with the organization.
In addition to the beach raid, Shayetet 13 also conducted a mission in southern Lebanon, targeting an underground Hezbollah compound stocked with weapons. The commandos, accompanied by other IDF units, eliminated several Hezbollah operatives in the tunnel and seized a significant arsenal, including rocket launchers, assault rifles, explosives, anti-tank missiles, and more. After neutralizing the threat, the IDF demolished the compound, similar to other bunkers discovered along the border.
The Israeli military’s intensified operations in Lebanon aim to quell Hezbollah’s ongoing attacks, which began in October 2023 in support of Hamas. Since launching the ground offensive, IDF forces and airstrikes have reportedly eliminated around 2,000 Hezbollah militants, including top leaders like Hassan Nasrallah. Despite these losses, Hezbollah continues to target Israel with daily rocket and drone assaults, resulting in casualties among Israeli civilians and military personnel.
