The Latin Impact Awards, held annually by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, celebrated the exceptional achievements and impactful work of Latin American community members at the recent gala on September 12th. The event, hosted at Terrace On The Park in Corona, Queens, honored a diverse group of individuals from various sectors, including politicians, community leaders, medical professionals, non-profit workers, and business leaders who have made significant contributions to their local communities.
The awards ceremony was presented by award-winning journalist Jeanine Ramirez, with entertainment provided by Pure Samba, offering a vibrant Brazilian carnival experience. The evening began with a VIP Hour for honorees, followed by a cocktail hour and gourmet dinner. The event also featured various sponsors, including Bethpage Federal Credit Union, TD Bank, Verra Mobility, NYC Health + Hospitals, and other organizations.
Robert Suarez, Assistant Vice President of Community Development at Bethpage Federal Credit Union, expressed how the Latin Impact Awards align with the company’s ethos of giving back to the community and recognizing individuals who are making a positive impact. He highlighted the importance of inspiring the next generation of Latin Americans to achieve greater heights.
The honorees of the evening, including Mabel Muñiz-Sarduy, Nathalie Tejada, and Elizabeth Velez, were recognized for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields. Muñiz-Sarduy received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 37 years of service in New York’s education system, while Tejada was honored with the TD Bank Outstanding Entrepreneur Award for her work with NYC Celebrates Women. Velez, President of Velez Construction, emphasized the importance of diversity and cultural heritage within the Latin-American community.
The event also highlighted the importance of family and community support, with many honorees celebrating alongside their loved ones. The presence of families at the gala underscored the core values of unity and celebration within the Latin American community in the US.
In addition to honoring individuals, the Latin Impact Awards gala also raised funds for Latin Women in Action, Inc., a local non-profit dedicated to providing essential services to women from all backgrounds. Approximately 100% of the raffle proceeds from the event were donated to the organization.
