Timothy Clarke, a new dad from a long line of cops and firefighters dating back to the Irish potato famine, was promoted to Lieutenant at an FDNY ceremony. He follows in the footsteps of his forefather who fled Ireland to become one of New York City’s Bravest.

Clarke, 41, shared that his great, great, great grandfather, Patrick Conaghan, was one of the first paid firefighters in NYC, starting in the mid-1800s after immigrating. He expressed pride in continuing the family tradition of serving as firefighters and cops since the difficult times of the Irish potato famine.

Taking an oath during his promotion, Clarke emphasized the honor and responsibility that comes with his new rank. He acknowledged the importance of training, relying on team members, and ensuring everyone’s safety, carrying on the legacy of his late relatives.

Despite his own achievements, Clarke remains humble, acknowledging the hard work of his fellow firefighters and the significance of the job itself. He revealed that his grandfather and father were also part of the firefighting and law enforcement community, instilling a sense of duty and tradition in him.

Clarke, who recently became a father to a newborn daughter, joked about the uncertainty of whether she would follow in the family’s footsteps. For now, his focus is on navigating parenthood and supporting his family.

The promotion ceremony, which took place at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island, honored approximately 70 FDNY members. Among them were promotions to Captain, supervising fire marshal, Lieutenant, and fire marshal roles.

Chief Robert Tucker congratulated the promoted members, highlighting their role as leaders in one of the world’s greatest fire departments. The event celebrated the dedication and commitment of these individuals to serving and protecting the community.

As Clarke continues his family’s legacy in the firefighting profession, he carries with him the stories and sacrifices of those who came before him. His journey from firefighter to Lieutenant symbolizes not only personal achievement but also a commitment to upholding a proud tradition of service and bravery.
