Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer who got convicted in that tragic on-set shooting death of a cinematographer during the filming of Alec Baldwin’s film “Rust,” well, she just got released from a New Mexico prison. Gutierrez-Reed, found guilty of involuntary manslaughter back in March 2024, was involved in an incident where a live round accidentally went off from a prop gun that Baldwin was messing around with back in 2021. This whole thing also ended up injuring director Joel Souza.
After serving her full 18-month sentence, Gutierrez-Reed walked out of the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility and headed back home to Bullhead City, Arizona, on parole for her involvement in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The terms of her parole? Well, she’s gotta go through some mental health assessments and isn’t allowed to own or possess any firearms. Not really sure why this matters, but hey, that’s the deal.
As for Baldwin, he was charged with involuntary manslaughter too after the gun he was holding went off on the set of “Rust,” killing Hutchins. But guess what? The case was dismissed by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer in July 2024, and it can’t be brought against him again. Seems like there was some evidence that got withheld from the defense during the trial, leading to the case getting thrown out. Weird stuff, right? But hey, that’s how things go sometimes.
