Bronx Man Fatally Shot, Teen Wounded in Second Homicide of 2025
In a tragic turn of events, a Bronx man lost his life in a double shooting that occurred on Friday night, leaving a teenager seriously injured. This incident marks the 44th Precinct’s second homicide case in the early days of 2025, adding to the six citywide murder cases reported so far this year.
Details of the Incident
The fatal shooting took place near an apartment building located at 1491 Macombs Road in Mount Eden, Bronx, around 5:48 p.m. on January 3. Upon receiving a 911 call reporting an assault in progress, police arrived at the scene to find two men with gunshot wounds. An unidentified man had been shot in the left chest, while a 17-year-old sustained a bullet wound to his right abdomen.
Both victims were promptly transported to St. Barnabas Hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Sadly, the unidentified man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The teenager, on the other hand, is currently in stable condition and undergoing treatment for his injuries.
Recent Homicides in the 44th Precinct
This tragic incident occurred just two days after the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Mario Fowler outside his home on East 170th Street in the early hours of January 1. Mario’s death marked the 44th Precinct’s first homicide of 2025 and was one of the initial homicides recorded in New York City this year. The investigation into Mario Fowler’s case is still ongoing.
According to the most recent CompStat report, the 44th Precinct had recorded 16 homicides year-to-date as of December 29, 2024, surpassing the total number of homicides reported in 2023. Additionally, the precinct had reported 45 shootings by the same date in 2024, one more than the total number of shootings in 2023.
