Charlie Woods won’t be hitting the links at the U.S. Open this year. The 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods took a swing at qualifying at Wellington Golf Club in Florida on Thursday and ended up shooting a 3-over par 75, falling short of the qualifying score of 68 by seven strokes. This isn’t the first time Charlie has missed out on the tournament, as he also failed to qualify last year. However, his performance this time around was an improvement compared to his attempt last spring when he shot a 9-over 81 at the Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie. With a total of 10,202 entries for the 125th U.S. Open happening at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania from June 12-15, Charlie was just one of many hopefuls trying to make the cut.

The Woods family won’t be represented at the U.S. Open this year, as Tiger Woods, Charlie’s father, will also be sitting this one out. The elder Woods recently underwent surgery after rupturing his left Achilles tendon while working out at home. At 49 years old and a 15-time major champion, Tiger hasn’t competed in a tournament since missing the cut at the British Open last July. He was rumored to be preparing for the Masters in April before his injury setback, which led to the surgery performed by Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.

It’s a shame that Charlie won’t be teeing off at the U.S. Open this year, especially after showing improvement in his game. But hey, there’s always next year, right? And who knows, maybe Tiger will make a comeback on the course as well. Until then, golf fans will have to root for other well-known players like Tony Romo, Mardy Fish, and J.T. Miller as they aim to qualify for the prestigious tournament. It’s always exciting to see new faces and familiar names competing for the title, even if the Woods duo won’t be in the mix this time around.

The Woods family has always been a force to reckon with in the world of golf, with Tiger’s legacy paving the way for Charlie to follow in his footsteps. While the U.S. Open may not be in the cards for them this year, there’s no doubt that they’ll be back stronger and more determined in the future. Golf is a game of ups and downs, and sometimes you just have to take the rough patches in stride. Who knows, maybe this setback will only fuel Charlie and Tiger’s drive to come back even stronger next time.

As fans eagerly await the start of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, they’ll be missing the Woods family on the course. But the show must go on, and there will be plenty of talented players vying for the championship title. Golf is a sport that constantly surprises and delights fans, and this year’s tournament is sure to be no different. So, while Charlie may not be playing this year, there’s always the possibility of seeing him and his father back in action in the future. Until then, let’s sit back, relax, and enjoy the game as it unfolds at Oakmont.
