A tragic chain-reaction crash on the Kosciuszko Bridge in Maspeth has resulted in the loss of a 75-year-old man from Texas and injuries to several others. The incident, which involved four vehicles, occurred on a rainy Thursday morning, causing chaos and devastation.
The victim, identified as Shafiur Rahman from Euless, Texas, was a passenger in a 2021 Honda HRV attempting to merge onto the southbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The collision was initiated by a 46-year-old man driving a 2024 GMC Sierra on the westbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, who struck the Honda HRV and a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. This initial impact led to a chain reaction, involving a 2018 Kia Sorento as well.
Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, where they found Rahman trapped inside the overturned Honda HRV. Despite efforts to save him, Rahman was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital shortly after. The driver of the Honda HRV, a 36-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment, along with the other passengers in the vehicle.
Additionally, the drivers of the Silverado and the Kia Sorento were transported to Elmhurst Hospital for medical care. Fortunately, they were listed in stable condition, providing some relief amidst the tragedy. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with no arrests made at this time.
