These days Hollywood is the boulevard of dreams, you know what I’m saying? Like, it’s where all the stars shine and stuff. So, get this, 38 years after Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool got together and rocked out as Green Day, they got a big ol’ pat on the back for their hard work: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. How cool is that?
And of course, in true Green Day fashion, these guys partied it up with some good food and friends. I mean, who wouldn’t, right? Tré Cool, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Mike Dirnt teamed up with 7-Eleven to launch a new Slurpee® drink on May 02, 2025, in Hollywood, California. Talk about living the dream, huh?
“I had a lot of things that tasted like Slurpees,” Dirnt, the bassist and vocalist, spilled the beans to The Post, talking about their new Kerplunk Kandy Grape Slurpee drink for 7-Eleven. And then Cool, the drummer, jumps in with a “Mariachi!” Like, what even is going on here? But hey, that’s just Green Day for you.
The lead vocalist and guitarist, Armstrong, chimed in too, talking about hanging out at El Compadre with their mariachi band buddies. Sounds like a blast, right? These guys really know how to have a good time.
But it wasn’t all fun and games, you know? Armstrong, Dirnt, and Cool were super grateful for that shiny new star of theirs. Dirnt mentioned how Hollywood has always been like a second home to them, especially since they started making big records with Rob Cavallo. And you can tell, right? Hollywood has a big heart, too. It’s not all glitz and glamour, folks.
So, after Armstrong and Dirnt started Green Day in 1987, they brought Cool on board in 1990, and the rest is history. They’ve won five Grammys and been nominated 19 times. And in 2015, they even got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Talk about making it big, huh?
Now, these rockers are taking a trip down memory lane, all the way back to when they dropped their second studio album “Kerplunk” 34 years ago. To celebrate, Armstrong, Cool, and Dirnt teamed up with 7-Eleven to create a special Slurpee. How cool is that?
At the pop-up event, Armstrong talked about making the album in just three days on a $1200 budget. They even smuggled their records over to Europe and toured there for the first time. Talk about living on the edge, right?
Dirnt mentioned how that album really helped them solidify their identity as a band and find their sound. It’s like they really hit their stride back then, you know?
Looking back on the album, Armstrong admitted that there’s a song called “One of My Lies” that he really loves. They still play it to this day. And Dirnt mentioned other tracks like “Christie Road” and “Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?” that hold a special place in their hearts.
But hey, it’s not all about the past, right? Green Day’s future is looking just as bright. After headlining Coachella for the first time last month, they’ve got more performances and new music lined up for their fans. They’re playing at BottleRock, Riot Fest, Ohana Festival, and even heading to South America. The music never stops for these guys.
So, if you’re in Los Angeles, make sure to grab yourself a Kerplunk Kandy Grape Slurpee from 7-Eleven before it’s gone. And hey, maybe swing by the speakeasy pop-up for a taste of nostalgia. You never know what surprises Green Day might have in store for you.
