The New York Jets have received another boost to their roster as star edge rusher Haason Reddick has ended his holdout and will report to the team’s facilities on Monday. Reddick, who was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in March, had been staying away from the team in hopes of securing a new long-term contract. However, after accruing over $12 million in fines for missing various team activities, he has decided to return under a reworked short-term deal.
During his time in the NFL, Reddick has been one of the most productive edge rushers, recording 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons. His desire for a new contract led to the Eagles trading him to the Jets earlier this year. Jets general manager Joe Douglas was aware of Reddick’s contract situation when they acquired him, as he carried a $15 million cap hit for the 2024 season.
Despite some initial tension, including a trade request from Reddick in August and permission to seek a trade last week, the Jets are now focused on working towards a long-term extension with the 30-year-old pass rusher. With Reddick’s return, the Jets are hoping to solidify their defense and continue to make moves to improve their roster.
This development comes in the midst of a whirlwind few weeks for the Jets, which saw them fire head coach Robert Saleh and make a blockbuster trade to acquire star wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders. With Reddick back in the mix, the Jets are looking to turn their season around and compete in a tough AFC East division.
