Former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson could potentially make a return to the AFC East, this time suiting up for one of the Jets’ divisional rivals. NFL insider Adam Schefter recently made a case for the Miami Dolphins to consider acquiring the former No. 2 overall pick.
Currently serving as the third-string quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Wilson could provide much-needed depth for the Miami Dolphins who are down to their third-string quarterback after injuries to both the starter, Tua Tagovailoa, and the backup, Skyler Thompson. With Thompson’s status uncertain for the upcoming game, the Dolphins may turn to Tim Boyle, another former Jets player, to lead the team.
Despite being inactive for all three of Denver’s games this season, Wilson is still a young talent at just 25 years old. He was traded to the Broncos from the Jets earlier this year in exchange for a late-round pick swap. During his time with the Jets, Wilson struggled to find success, ending with a record of 12-21 as a starter.
The potential move would add an interesting dynamic to the AFC East rivalry, as the Jets are set to face off against the Dolphins later in the season. In addition to Zach Wilson, Schefter also mentioned other possible trade targets for Miami, including Russell Wilson from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dorian Thompson-Robinson from the Cleveland Browns.
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, it will be intriguing to see if the Miami Dolphins make a move to bolster their quarterback depth with the addition of Zach Wilson. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
