Developed in partnership with Behaviour Interactive, the latest expansion for Stellaris, called Cosmic Storms, has been released alongside the free 3.13 ‘Vela’ update. This new content introduces players to a variety of new space storms that will appear randomly in the game after a few years. These storms have a cooldown period and a limit on how many can spawn in different stages of the game, but players have the option to customize these settings during the pre-game setup. Additionally, players now have the ability to create their own storms, adding a new level of unpredictability to the game.

Some of the key features of the DLC include the addition of 8 new space storms, a new origin called Storm Chasers, and three new civics: Planetscapers, Astrometeorology, and Storm Devotion. Players can also take advantage of the Galactic Weather Control Ascension Perk, a Weather Forecasting Map Mode, two new Precursor narratives with unique Relics, and various storm-related technologies, edicts, and Galactic community resolutions.

In addition to the DLC, the free update includes bug fixes and improvements, such as changes to planetary resource deposits. Now, instead of providing access to specific resource buildings, these deposits increase the number of mining districts available on the planet and add a small amount of resource production to miners after the relevant technology is researched. Penal Colonies have been adjusted to reduce crime empire-wide and provide access to Prison Industrial Districts, while Thrall Worlds offer the Battle Thrall District to boost army experience and damage output.

Players interested in accessing the Cosmic Storms expansion can purchase it for €12.99 / $12.99 / £10.99 or as part of the Stellaris Season 08 DLC pass. Stellaris, which offers native Linux support, is available for purchase on various platforms, including Fanatical, GOG, Humble Store, and Steam.
