A 15-year-old boy in the Bronx is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting and killing a 29-year-old man in broad daylight. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near East 161st Street and Morris Avenue in Concourse, just steps away from the Bronx County Hall of Justice.
According to law enforcement sources, officers from the 44th Precinct witnessed the young suspect shooting the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene on foot. The officers chased him for about half a mile before apprehending him at the corner of East 156th Street and Courtlandt Avenue.
The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
The 15-year-old suspect has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Due to his age, the NYPD has not disclosed his identity. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
As of the most recent CompStat report, the 44th Precinct has reported 14 homicides so far this year, one less than the same period last year. The number of shootings stands at 43, the same as last year’s total at this time.
