Turkish Construction Boss Pleads Guilty in Mayor Adams’ Bribery Case
Erden Arkan, co-owner of KSK Construction Group, pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge in the sprawling corruption case against Mayor Eric Adams on Friday, January 10, 2025.
Arkan, a Turkish national and businessman, admitted to knowingly breaking the law by reimbursing 10 of his employees who each contributed over $1,200 to Adams’ mayoral campaign during a May 2021 fundraiser. This act was part of a scheme to help the campaign qualify for public dollars through the city’s matching funds program, violating campaign finance laws.
As part of his plea agreement, Arkan faces up to six months in jail and fines totaling up to $9,500. He is set to be sentenced on August 15, after Mayor Adams’ trial concludes in April.
Arkan’s Potential Testimony Against Adams
Arkan’s guilty plea raises the possibility that he will testify against Adams during the upcoming trial. However, Adams’ attorney, Alex Spiro, claims that Arkan’s actions will not affect the mayor’s case, as Arkan reportedly stated that Adams had no knowledge of his actions.

Adams was indicted by the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office in September on charges of bribery, wire fraud, and soliciting illegal foreign campaign contributions. He has pleaded not guilty, attributing the case to political retribution for his criticism of President Biden’s immigration policies.
Prosecutors allege that Adams received luxury travel benefits and illegal foreign campaign donations from Turkish nationals over several years in exchange for expediting the opening of a Turkish consulate in Manhattan. The indictment suggests that Adams discussed the city’s matching funds program with Arkan during a dinner in April 2021, leading to the Turkish official expressing support for the mayor.
