The Monopoly Queens Edition was recently launched, featuring local businesses and locations in the borough of Queens. This special edition board was a result of months of designing and thousands of nominations from the community. The game manager, Tim Barney, shared insights on the process of selecting locations and designing the board.
When choosing a new special edition Monopoly city, Top Trumps looks for places with a strong sense of community, local pride, great businesses and organizations, vibrant culture, and rich history. Each edition is unique and captures the essence of the city it represents. For the Queens Edition, the goal was to celebrate the places and things that are quintessentially Queens.
Thousands of location nominations were received for Queens, making it a challenge to select which ones to include on the board. The criteria for selection included longevity, credibility, community engagement, and representing different business types and neighborhoods. Despite the challenges, the team did their best to showcase the diversity of Queens.
The process of creating the board was both challenging and exciting. The team had to make tough decisions about which locations to include, knowing that they couldn’t fit everyone in. However, translating the spirit of Queens into a visual space was a creative and fun aspect of the project. The big game launch and unveiling at Queens Center Mall added to the excitement and allowed the public to celebrate their favorite game and city.
Looking ahead, Top Trumps plans to feature more NYC boroughs as special edition boards in the future. Additionally, there are plans to release special editions outside of the city. While specific details are not yet available, fans can look forward to more unique and community-inspired Monopoly boards in the coming years. Start thinking about what you’d like to see in these future editions!
