Xbox users will soon have the ability to send and receive friend requests once again, a feature that has been absent since the Xbox 360 era. The announcement was made on the official Xbox website, revealing that Xbox Insiders, specifically Alpha Skip-Ahead users on consoles, as well as those who have joined the PC Gaming preview on Windows PCs and handheld devices, will be the first to experience the updated friends and followers system.

This new system will come with updated relationships, privacy settings, and notification options, allowing users to customize their social experiences on Xbox. Users will now have the ability to send, accept, or delete friend requests, in addition to following or being followed by others. This change aims to streamline the process of connecting with other players on the platform.

The current friends system on Xbox, which was implemented with the Xbox One, only allows users to add others to their friends list. If the other user does not reciprocate, they are considered a “follower” and can only view content that the user has made public. However, since there is no notification for gaining a new follower, it can be easy to miss connection requests from friends or fellow players.

While Xbox Insiders and participants in the PC Gaming preview will have early access to the friend-request feature, the general Xbox player base will have to wait for its full rollout. Xbox has not specified a timeline for when non-Insiders can expect to access this feature, so users will need to stay tuned for future updates.
