An elderly woman in Harlem bravely defended herself against a violent attack from her caregiver, and the caregiver has been charged as a result. The incident, which was captured on home security cameras, showed the health aide, Oluwanifemi Aborisade, assaulting the 95-year-old woman, Dorothy Foye, in her own apartment.
The altercation reportedly started when the two women were arguing about changing Foye’s bedsheets. The situation quickly escalated, with Aborisade throwing items at Foye, punching her multiple times, and even hitting her with a metal kitchen pot. Despite Foye’s attempts to defend herself with a backscratcher, the attack left her bruised, aching, and traumatized.
After the incident, Aborisade fled the scene, leaving Foye in a state of distress. The caregiver was later arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person. She pleaded not guilty and is currently being held on bail.
Foye’s family, who were shocked and disturbed by the footage of the attack, described hearing the caregiver screaming profanities at their grandmother in the background during a phone call. The family expressed their concern for Foye’s well-being and emphasized the need for justice to be served in this case.
The incident has raised questions about the safety and security of elderly individuals who rely on caregivers for assistance. It serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough background checks and proper training for individuals working in the home healthcare industry.
Moving forward, it is crucial for authorities to investigate this case thoroughly and ensure that measures are in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The well-being and safety of vulnerable elderly individuals must be protected, and caregivers must be held accountable for their actions.
