A college admissions officer at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, Lupe Lazaro, recently accused supporters of former President Trump of tolerating behaviors such as “rape,” “xenophobia,” and “homophobia” in a strongly worded social media post. In screenshots obtained by Campus Reform, Lazaro expressed her views on Instagram Stories, stating, “You are no different than the piece of s— human you stand behind.”
The post went on to highlight various actions and attitudes that Lazaro associated with Trump supporters, including disrespect towards legal immigrants, the military, and the vice president. She also mentioned issues such as “xenophobia,” “mocking the disabled,” “felons,” “homophobia,” “rape,” “misogyny,” and planning to “overthrow democracy.” Lazaro graduated from Gettysburg College this year with a major in psychology and minors in sociology and Spanish, although her biography has since been removed from the college admissions office website.
When contacted for a statement, Gettysburg College informed Fox News Digital that they were aware of the recent post reshared by an employee on her private account, which was later made public by a follower. The college clarified that they do not endorse or condone the views expressed in the post and are dedicated to promoting civil discourse and welcoming students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
This incident is not the first time that controversial statements have led to repercussions in an educational setting. In a separate incident earlier this month, an instructor at the University of Kansas faced backlash after making comments in a classroom about men who did not support female presidential candidates deserving to be “shot.” Following the incident, the university placed the instructor on leave, and subsequently announced that he was no longer employed by the institution.
These instances serve as reminders of the potential consequences of expressing extreme views, especially in professional and educational environments where diverse opinions are expected to be respected. While individuals are entitled to their own beliefs and opinions, it is essential to consider the impact of one’s words and actions, particularly in contexts where they may be representing an organization or institution. Promoting healthy debate and respectful dialogue can help create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the community.
