Gen Z Struggling with Midlife Crisis: MetLife Study Reveals Alarming Trend

In a groundbreaking study conducted by MetLife, it has been revealed that members of Generation Z are facing a midlife crisis at a shockingly young age. Todd Katz, the executive vice president of group benefits at MetLife, has disclosed that Gen Z employees are grappling with various challenges across the board, including physical, social, mental, and financial well-being.

Staggering Decline in Holistic Health

According to the survey, Gen Z has experienced a significant 6% decrease in holistic health compared to last year. This decline is even more alarming when considering that their current score is lower than what a similar age group reported five years ago. Shockingly, only one in three Gen Z workers reported feeling holistically healthy, marking a 10% decrease from the average employee.

Financial Stress Taking a Toll

A major contributing factor to the deteriorating well-being of Gen Z employees is the overwhelming financial burdens they face. Rising costs across the board have left many Zoomers feeling stressed, burned out, depressed, and isolated. This financial strain has even led to a reported 38% of Gen Z workers experiencing a “midlife crisis” due to financial stress.

One in ten Gen Z workers has turned down job offers due to the high costs associated with commuting and work attire. Additionally, a significant portion of Gen Z individuals fear that the escalating cost of living will impede their future financial security.

Employers Urged to Provide Support

In light of these concerning findings, Katz emphasized the need for employers to better communicate the benefits available to their workers. Providing support for issues such as student debt, childcare costs, pet insurance, commuting, and saving money can significantly impact the well-being of Gen Z employees.

It is crucial for companies to create a workplace culture that aligns with the needs and desires of Gen Z workers, as workplace perks and benefits play a significant role in their overall satisfaction and holistic health. By offering support and understanding the unique challenges faced by Gen Z, employers can help alleviate the midlife crisis experienced by this generation at an early stage.
